Rolled ankle sends Crawford to disabled list
Dodgers unsure how long the sprain will keep left fielder on the shelf
LOS ANGELES -- As expected, the Dodgers placed left fielder Carl Crawford on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a sprained left ankle.
"He got it good," manager Don Mattingly said, one day after Crawford rolled his ankle badly while tracking a ball into the left-field corner in the eighth inning against the Reds on Tuesday. "But he looked, actually, pretty good today.
"It's going to take a few days, and we'll see where it goes."
Mostly, Mattingly meant it will take a few days for the swelling to reduce a little and for the club to determined the severity of the sprain. They expect Crawford to miss at least a couple of weeks, thus the DL move. But whether he is able to return right when he's eligible to come off of the DL or will need more time, that will be the question.
"It's going to be a couple of weeks, and we'll see where it goes from there," Mattingly said.
The Dodgers recalled outfielder Jamie Romak from Triple-A Albuquerque to replace Crawford on the roster, and Matt Kemp moved into the starting lineup in left field for Wednesday's series finale against the Reds.
