Lewis to get one more rehab start

OAKLAND -- The Rangers have decided to keep right-hander Colby Lewis on medical rehabilitation assignment and he will pitch for Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday against Salt Lake.

Lewis pitched for Double-A Frisco on Saturday and allowed two runs in five innings. He allowed six hits and one walk while striking out three. He threw 86 pitches and will shoot for 100 on Thursday against Salt Lake City.

"With each outing, he says he feels better health-wise and stuff-wise, but we still feel it is most prudent to make sure he is 100 percent," assistant general manager Thad Levine said. "He said there is a real benefit from having him make another start."

Lewis had surgery on July 27, 2012, to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow. His rehab assignment ends on Aug 15, so he has time to make two more starts. After that, the Rangers will have to decide whether to activate him. Right now there is no room in the rotation, unless Alexi Ogando is moved to the bullpen or Martin Perez is sent to Triple-A.
