LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers placed infielder John Forsythe on the 10-day disabled list on Sunday with right shoulder inflammation and recalled infielder Breyvic Valera from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Forsythe was removed from Saturday night's 9-1 loss to the D-backs before the start of the sixth inning when he experienced soreness making throws from third base to first. He underwent an MRI after the game.
"It's not severe, which is good," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "To say that once his 10 days are up [he'll be able to return], it's feasible. There was fatigue and inflammation in there, but no structural damage."

Forsythe said he has been experiencing shoulder pain on throws since Spring Training, back when he was expected to be the Dodgers' primary second baseman. He said the condition only worsened with the longer throws he had to make from third base after replacing the injured Justin Turner, who broke his left wrist on March 19. 
"It just grabbed me last night and wouldn't let go," Forsythe said. "I think third base is a factor. It is a different throw when you lengthen the arm out. For me, my shoulder takes the brunt of it. It was the load once J.T. went down and trying to get comfortable. I think it played a role."
Forsythe was hitting .174 with one home run and four RBIs this season. He will remain in Los Angeles for treatment when the Dodgers hit the road on Monday. He hopes to resume throwing in five days, return in 10 and continue a shoulder strengthening regimen even after he returns.
"Yesterday, it tightened up on him and he said there was some fatigue, so we wanted to get some pictures," said Roberts. "We'll put it to rest for 10 days and hopefully get it strong."
Enrique Hernandez and James Farmer are expected to get most of the playing time at third base while Forsythe is out. There is no timetable for the return of Turner, who has been out for four weeks and has not yet resumed batting.
Valera was acquired from the Cardinals on April 1 for Johan Mieses. He entered the Dodgers' win on Sunday as a pinch-hitter for Clayton Kershaw in the seventh inning and walked. He also made a nice running catch in foul ground in the eighth inning after taking over at second base for Chase Utley in a double switch.
"Athletic, switch-hitter, can play anywhere on the field," Roberts said of Valera. "Good runner. In the National League, it makes sense."
Valera said his best positions are center field and second base and that his favorite Major Leaguers are Utley and Omar Vizquel because they are line-drive hitters like him.
