Cain out of lineup with mild hamstring injury

SEATTLE -- Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain was out of the lineup on Wednesday because of a hamstring injury.

"A very slight hamstring [injury]," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "He did it on that ball in the gap late in the game [Tuesday]. With the off-day tomorrow it would be stupid to push it through. He's definitely playable.

"But with the off-day tomorrow we can sit him today and sit him tomorrow and he'll be ready to go in Oakland [on Friday]."

Jarrod Dyson started in center field in place of Cain.

Worth noting

• Right-hander Yordano Ventura, on the disabled list because of weakness in his right hand, will make a rehab start for Triple-A Omaha on Friday.

Ventura will be limited to about 75 pitches or five innings.

After that?

"We'll just re-evaluate," Yost said. "I don't really need another starter until July 5."

• With the activation of left-hander Danny Duffy on Wednesday, right-hander Michael Mariot was optioned back to Triple-A Omaha.
