Injured pitchers take steps toward returning

Jansen ready for another rehab outing, while Ryu and League improve

LOS ANGELES -- Closer Kenley Jansen, who's on the disabled list, said he came out of his one-inning rehab start Friday night in good shape and will do it again Sunday for Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga.

Jansen said his fastball was clocked at a high of 96 mph. Based on his tentative schedule, he could be activated as early as May 15. He is recovering from left-foot surgery.

Starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu, also on the DL, will throw a second bullpen session Sunday and manager Don Mattingly said Ryu will accompany the club on the trip next week and is expected to throw to hitters. As a starting pitcher, he will need more time to build arm strength than Jansen.

Another pitcher on the DL, reliever Brandon League, is nearing a bullpen session as he recovers from a right-shoulder impingement.
