Kershaw answers fans' questions on MLB.com
Dodgers ace talks about rookie Puig and how he learned to throw a curveball
NEW YORK -- Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw fielded fans' questions Tuesday on the Edward Jones Chatting Cage on MLB.com.
Kershaw, who handled the assignment from the visitors' dugout at Yankee Stadium, said his favorite questions were the ones about other players.
"When they ask me about the funniest guys or other players that I admire, those are the ones I like best," said Kershaw. "I don't love talking about myself. I'm not that interesting."
That didn't seem to be the collective opinion of fans participating, whose questions to Kershaw ranged from his favorite player growing up (Will Clark) to comparisons with Sandy Koufax ("I haven't played that long") to the charity work of Kershaw and his wife, Ellen, who have built a home for vulnerable children in Zambia.
Kershaw was also asked about rookie Yasiel Puig ("A very impressive talent") and his unconventionally high set position when he's pitching out of the stretch.
"I used to tip my pitches, and that's why I open the glove wide and the high pause helps me remember to breathe," he said. "I'll stick with it."
Kershaw also was asked about when he learned to throw a curveball.
"I started too young, 11 or 12," he said. "I don't know who taught it or how I figured it out, but it's definitely changed over the years."
