Manny Crespo Named Manager of Spain for World Baseball Classic Qualifier

DETROIT - Detroit Tigers Director of Latin American Player Development Manny Crespo has been named the manager for Spain in the upcoming World Baseball Classic qualifier.

DETROIT - Detroit Tigers Director of Latin American Player Development Manny Crespo has been named the manager for Spain in the upcoming World Baseball Classic qualifier.
Crespo, who is entering his 11th season with the Tigers, served as the bench coach for Spain in the 2012 and 2014 European Championships as the team finished in third place in each tournament. He also served as bench coach for Spain during the 2013 World Baseball Classic qualifier as the team won the tournament and advanced to the World Baseball Classic for the first time.
Prior to joining the Tigers organization, Crespo spent time in the San Diego Padres, New York Yankees and Florida Marlins organizations. 
A third round draft choice by the Boston Red Sox in 1968, Crespo played nine seasons in the minor leagues before retiring in 1978.
Crespo currently resides in Miami, FL with his wife, Maria.
