Machado keeps hold of 3rd-base ASG lead

Trumbo in tight race for last outfield spot

BALTIMORE -- Manny Machado is still leading American League third basemen, according to the latest 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot update released on Tuesday, with O's outfielder Mark Trumbo starting to make a push for the 87th All-Star Game on July 12.
Machado, seeking his third All-Star appearance, has 1,626,064 votes to lead Toronto's Josh Donaldson (1,112,743). Machado is currently serving a four-game suspension for punching Royals right-hander Yordano Ventura after being hit by a pitch on June 7, and he will return to the team later this week.

Trumbo, who is having a career year, is trying to make his second All-Star team and is currently in fourth place among AL outfielders in a close contest.
Mike Trout of the Angels leads AL outfield voting with 2,324,597 votes, with the Red Sox's Jackie Bradley Jr. second with 1,725,672 and Mookie Betts third with 1,435,218. Trumbo has 1,408,195 votes, Kansas City's Lorenzo Cain is fifth with 1,403,617 and Toronto's Jose Bautista is sixth with 1,302,121. Betts leading Trumbo for third place is the slimmest margin of any AL position right now.

Catcher Matt Wieters (807,958 votes) has a sizeable hold on second place behind the Royals' Salvador Perez (2,744,293). First baseman Chris Davis (724,788) is third at that position, behind leader Eric Hosmer of Kansas City (2,054,642) and Miguel Cabrera of Detroit (1,481,445).
