Machado wins AL Player of the Month Award

BALTIMORE -- Manny Machado's second-half surge has been a big part of Baltimore's postseason push. And, on Sunday, Machado was recognized for his efforts, named the American League Player of the Month for August.
Machado, joined in the National League by the Marlins' , hit .341 with six doubles, 12 homers, 23 runs scored and 35 RBIs in 29 games. He led the American League in RBIs, extra-base hits (19) and total bases (87) over that span, ranking tied for first in homers and fifth in runs scored.

Machado's 12 homers in August set a new career high. He was named AL Player of the Week for Aug. 14-20 with a pair of grand slams helping his case. Machado is tied for the team lead with 30 RBIs in the seventh inning or later, and matched his career high with three homers and seven RBIs on Aug.18 against the Angels. In that game, he hit a walk-off grand slam, becoming the 13th player in MLB history with three homers in a game and the last one a walk-off.
According to Elias, Machado is just the 10th player -- the first in Orioles' history -- to hit three grand slams in one calendar month.
Machado entered Sunday batting .272 with 30 homers and 88 RBIs. Since the All-Star break, the third baseman is batting 340/.372/.590.
