SARASOTA, Fla. -- Manny Machado doubled twice and drove in a run, as the Orioles put one in the win column on Saturday afternoon, beating the Twins 8-1 at Ed Smith Stadium. Baltimore had been off to an 0-10-2 start in Grapefruit League play.
The bad news for the Orioles was that catcher Matt Wieters, who returned from Tommy John surgery last June, with right elbow soreness left after the top of the first inning.

With the Orioles trailing 1-0 with one out in the bottom of the first, Machado ripped a double into the left-center gap. Three batters later, with the bases loaded, he scored on a Trevor May wild pitch, and Mark Trumbo followed with a go-ahead two-run single to left.
Machado came up again with two outs and a runner on second in the following inning, and after crushing a would-be homer that hooked foul, he pulled an RBI double down the third-base line. Machado almost got another hit in his third at-bat, but Twins reliever Taylor Rogers made a leaping snag of Machado's sizzling one-hopper.
Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez allowed four baserunners during a 30-pitch first inning, serving up an RBI double to non-roster invitee Carlos Quentin. He settled down after that, retiring eight of his final nine batters.
Jimenez completed 3 1/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits, with one walk and two strikeouts, throwing 61 pitches (39 strikes). It was his second consecutive strong outing after a rough Grapefruit League debut in which he allowed six runs in one-third of an inning.
"I felt good," Jimenez said. "Right after the first inning, I was able to get in a good rhythm and command the fastball and throw the breaking ball for strikes.
"Today I was able to throw the slider and the split, which I hadn't throw the first two games, and it was good. I was able to incorporate them into the arsenal today."
May was scored upon for the first time in three spring appearances, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits over 2 2/3 innings. The righty struck out three and didn't walk any Orioles.

Audry Perez, Wieters' replacement at catcher, whacked his first homer of the spring, a two-run shot that scored Trumbo in the sixth. Steve Tolleson cleared the left-field bleachers with a two-run blast in the seventh, also his first.
Byung Ho Park, who came into the game batting .316 this spring, singled twice for the Twins.
Up next for the Twins:Ricky Nolasco is set to pitch for Minnesota as it hosts the second of back-to-back meetings with Baltimore at 12:05 p.m. CT in Fort Myers, Fla. The game can be seen on MLB.TV. After allowing three earned runs in his first start, Nolasco bounced back his last time out with three scoreless innings against the Cardinals.
Up next for the Orioles: Slugger Pedro Alvarez, who signed a one-year deal on Thursday, is scheduled to make his Baltimore debut when the club visits Minnesota for a 1:05 p.m. ET game in Fort Myers, Fla. The game will be broadcast live on MLB.TV. Right-hander Miguel Gonzalez will make his third start of the spring for the Orioles after holding the Red Sox to one run over 2 2/3 innings on Tuesday.
