TORONTO -- This Mother's Day featured a special moment for Blue Jays starter Marco Estrada, who caught the ceremonial first pitch from his mother, Mariza, ahead of Toronto's 3-2 walk-off win over Seattle.
Mariza was nervous about the pitch, of course, but after a few quick throws with her son in the Rogers Centre hallway, she was ready.
"She goes out there and throws a strike," Marco said, smiling, after the game. "I figured she would. She made a great throw, and I was really proud of her. "
Sunday was also Marco Estrada bobblehead day at Rogers Centre, which had fans lining up hours before the gates opened. After receiving the strike from his mother, Estrada presented her with flowers on the field.

"It's a special day overall," Estrada said. "There were a lot of things that were going on today. Obviously, being Mother's Day, she means the world to not only me, but my family. Then, finally having my bobblehead day. It's taken me almost eight years to get one. It's a proud moment overall."

Estrada and his mother moved from Obregon, Mexico, to Sylmar, Calif., when he was young, and Mariza has supported Marco throughout his odds-defying career.
Once a barely recruited high school pitcher who didn't find his home on the mound until his senior year, Estrada has grown into one of the league's most reliable starters and holds a 3.12 ERA through his first eight starts of 2017.
Players across the league geared up with pink cleats, bats and accessories on Saturday and Sunday as Major League Baseball honored Mother's Day.
