Stroman cleared to start Friday vs. Tigers

TORONTO -- The Blue Jays announced on Thursday afternoon that right-hander has been cleared to start Friday night's series opener vs. the Tigers at Rogers Centre.
Stroman was scheduled to have a meeting with pitching coach Pete Walker and the club's medical staff on Thursday. He also was expected to go through some tests and throw off flat ground before getting the go-ahead to start.
The 26-year-old left his last start in the second inning after he was struck on the right elbow by a 107.5-mph line drive off the bat of Baltimore's . X-rays were negative, but there was some swelling and soreness in the area that needed to subside before Stroman could pitch.
Toronto had an off-day on Thursday before starting a three-game series against Detroit on Friday. Stroman is 11-6 with a 3.08 ERA in 28 starts for the Blue Jays this season. Lefties and J.A. Happ will start the final two games of the series, respectively.
