Mariners acquire INF/OF Trumbo, LHP Nuño from D-backs for RHP Leone, C Castillo and 2 Minor Leaguers
Trumbo and Nuño expected to join the club on Thursday
SEATTLE - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced today the club has acquired infielder/outfielder Mark Trumbo and LHP Vidal Nuño from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for catcher Welington Castillo, right-handed pitcher Dominic Leone and minor leaguers Gabby Guerrero and Jack Reinheimer.
Seattle will make additional roster moves on its 25-man roster when Trumbo and Nuño report to the Mariners.
"Trumbo gives us another proven, middle-of-the-line-up bat," Zduriencik said. "He brings power and experience to the club. We think his presence will stretch and deepen our lineup with a legitimate Major League hitter. Nuño is a versatile, left-hander who has experience starting and relieving and comes to us at a time when we have experienced injuries. He's a tough kid who throws strikes and will be a nice addition overall."

Trumbo, 29, is batting .259 (45x174) with 10 doubles, 3 triples, 9 home runs and 23 RBI in 46 games for the Diamondbacks. He has started 40 games in right field and one at first base this season.
In six Major League seasons with the Los Angeles Angels (2010-2013) and Diamondbacks (2014-15), Trumbo has combined to hit 118 home runs in 594 games (18.8 AB/HR) and recorded 368 RBI. From 2011-2013 with the Angels, he combined to hit 95 home runs, tied for 4th-most in the American League over this stretch (282 RBI were 6th-most). In his last season in the American League in 2013 he hit 30 doubles, 34 home runs and recorded 100 RBI. He has played first base (343 G/320 GS), left field (116 G/114 GS), right field (107 G/89 GS), designated hitter (41 GS) and third base (9 G/8 GS) during his Major League career.
Trumbo was an American League All-Star in 2012 and participated in the Home Run Derby. He was originally selected by the Angels in the 18th round of the 2004 June Draft out of Villa Park High School in Orange, Calif. He was acquired by the Diamondbacks on Dec. 10, 2013 as part of a three-team trade with the Angels and White Sox.
Nuño, 27, made 3 relief appearances for the Diamondbacks this season, posting a 0-1, 1.88 ERA record. He made 8 starts for AAA Reno in the Pacific Coast League, going 3-3 with a 3.38 ERA (19 ER, 50.2 IP) and a 5.13 strikeout-to-walk ratio (41 SO, 8 BB).
In parts of three Major League seasons with the New York Yankees (2013-2014) and Diamondbacks (2014-2015), Nuño has combined for a 3-15 record with a 4.13 ERA in 39 games, 31 starts. He is 35-21 with 2 saves and a 2.90 ERA in 103 career minor league appearances (71 starts). The National City, Calif., native was originally selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 48th round of the 2009 June Draft.
Castillo, 28, appeared in 6 games with Seattle after being acquired from the Cubs on May 19 in exchange for right-hander Yoervis Medina. In 30 games (12 starts) between the Mariners and Cubs this season, he is hitting .162 (11x68) with 8 runs, 2 doubles, 2 home runs and 7 RBI. In parts of 6 Major League seasons with Chicago-NL & Seattle, Castillo has appeared in 316 games and combined for a .250 (258x1031) batting average with 29 home runs and 112 RBI.
Leone, 23, was 0-4 with a 6.35 ERA (8 ER, 11.1 IP) in 10 relief appearances with Seattle this season. Over parts of two seasons with the Mariners, he is 8-6 with a 2.78 ERA (8 ER, 11.1 IP) with 77 strikeouts in 67 appearances. He was originally drafted by Seattle in the 16th round of the 2012 June amateur draft out of Clemson University.
Reinheimer, 22, appeared in 48 games with Double-A Jackson, batting .277 (56x202) with 25 runs scored, 10 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run and 16 RBI. He was the Mariners 5th round selection in the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of East Carolina University. Over his first four minor league seasons, Reinheimer is batting .275 (267x972) with 148 runs scored, 38 doubles, 7 triples, 6 home runs and 104 RBI in 244 career games.
Guerrero, 21, is batting .215 (38x177) with 22 runs scored, 10 doubles, 2 home runs and 15 RBI in 48 games with Double-A Jackson in 2015. Guerrero, who signed with the Mariners as an International Free Agent on January 11, 2001, is batting .286 (473x1653) with 259 runs scored, 86 doubles, 9 triples, 40 home runs and 247 RBI in 430 career games over five seasons in the minor leagues.
