Cano extends hit streak, exits early vs. Texas

Mariners 2B fouled ball off right foot in first inning

September 7th, 2016

SEATTLE -- was taken out of Tuesday's 10-7 loss to the Rangers due to a sore right foot after a leadoff single in the seventh inning.
Cano fouled a ball off his foot in his first at-bat, but stayed in the game until after his fourth trip to the plate. He was 1-for-4 with the single before being replaced by pinch-runner with Seattle trailing, 8-4.
"I didn't even know if he'd go up for the last at-bat. And then he did and he got to first," manager Scott Servais said. "He had a little swelling in the ankle, so hopefully he'll be OK. And speed's not a big part of his game, but obviously the mobility at second base, moving around and covering the ground there is really important. So hopefully we'll have him back in there tomorrow."
Cano has a 10-game hitting streak and he's batting .424 (25-for-59) with four home runs over his past 15 games to hike his season average to .304 with 32 home runs, one shy of his career high.
Servais said he noticed the foot hindering Cano in the field before taking him out.
"I did, and I noticed it when he was running the bases the one time, and he made mention of it after that," Servais said. "It was stiffening up on him. He just wasn't feeling good."
