Mariners celebrate Independence Day with a bang at Safeco Field

July 4th festivities include special player uniforms, WWII veteran from Bellevue will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Safeco Field will be awash in Red, White & Blue as the Seattle Mariners celebrate the July 4th holiday.
Postgame Fireworks
The festivities get started on Monday, July 3, with a postgame fireworks show set to patriotic music. Game time for the Mariners vs. Kansas City Royals game on Monday is 7:10 pm.

4th of July
On Tuesday, July 4, there is a special afternoon start time for the Mariners vs. Royals matchup - 3:40 p.m. The first 15,000 fans through the gates will receive a patriotic themed Mariners cowboy hat.
Ceremonial 1st Pitch
Throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before the game will be 93 year old Donald Houck of Bellevue. Houck is a U.S. Army veteran from World War II who served with the 75th Infantry Division in Central Europe including in the Ardennes at the Battle of the Bulge, the largest and bloodiest battle fought by American troops in World War II. Houck, who earned a Bronze Star, which is awarded for meritorious service and combat bravery, is a retired Boeing engineer who helped design the cockpit for the first 747.

Special Uniforms

Mariners and Royals players will be wearing special Stars and Stripes jerseys, caps and optional patriotic socks for the game. Major League Baseball has worked with its Authentic Collection partners at Majestic, New Era and Stance to create a cohesive look for all teams that features a red, white and blue Stars and Stripes design. Even the game ball by Rawlings, Official Baseball of MLB, has a specially stitched color pattern.
MLB will donate its licensed uniform royalties from all July 4th games to support military veterans and their families.
