Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today from the MLB Winter Meetings that the club has claimed outfielder Cameron Perkins off waivers from Philadelphia.
Seattle's Major League (40-man) roster is now at 37 players.
Perkins, 27, made his Major League debut with Philadelphia in 2017. After being selected by the Phillies on June 20, he appeared in 42 games, batting .182 (16x88) with 9 runs, 5 doubles, 1 home run and 8 RBI. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound outfielder began the season with AAA Lehigh Valley, where he hit .288 (74x257) with 37 runs, 18 doubles, 1 triple, 7 home runs and 27 RBI in 76 games.
Perkins was selected by Seattle in the 43rd round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Southport High School (Indianapolis, IN) but did not sign. After playing 3 seasons at Purdue University, he was selected by Philadelphia in the 6th round of the 2012 MLB First Draft. In parts of 6 minor league seasons with the Phillies, the native of Indianapolis, IN, is a career .282 (613x2176) hitters with 263 runs, 145 doubles, 16 triples, 39 home runs and 271 RBI in 596 career games.
