PEORIA, Ariz. -- As the 2017 Arizona Fall League season concluded, Eric Filia continued to do exactly what he did all AFL: hit. Filia collected two hits, helping the Peoria Javelinas to a 7-4 victory over the Scottsdale Scorpions and claim the circuit's batting title with .408 average.
"I got my pitches. I put some good swings on them and barreled some balls up. I'm just honored to be out here and play baseball," Filia said.

The Mariners' No. 24 prospect went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk. His average was the highest a Fall League player has posted since C.J. Cron batted .413 in 2013.
"[It means] a lot," Filia said of winning the batting title. "I couldn't have done it without my teammates backing me up, getting on base and opening holes for me. Our lineup is stacked through and through. I just have to give credit to the guys."
The Mariners selected Filia out of UCLA in the 20th round of the 2016 Draft. The former Bruin played for the Modesto Nuts in the Class A Advanced League in 2017 after leading the Northwest League in hitting (.326) and on-base percentage (.450) in 2016.
Although he performed well this season, Filia knows that there is always room for improvement.
"I want to get better at base-running and I want to get better on defense, especially at first base," he said. "I'm trying to learn a new position and it's hard for me, but I'm open to asking questions and getting better."
The Javelinas will face the Mesa Solar Sox on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET in the Arizona Fall League title game.
"Seeing the talent all throughout Minor League baseball, it's pretty special and I'm glad that I came out here and represented the Seattle Mariners organization and I had a lot of fun doing it," Filia said of his AFL experience. "I'm very honored."
Yankees No. 3 prospect Estevan Florial went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Scorpions. First baseman Michael Chavis, the Red Sox's No. 2 prospect, went 2-for-4 with a run scored for Peoria.
