MINNEAPOLIS -- Justin Hollander, the current director of player personnel with the Angels, has been hired as the Mariners' director of baseball operations, the club announced Friday.
Hollander, 37, has spent the past nine seasons in the Angels' front office and worked the previous four years with Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto.
He replaces Caleb Peiffer, who has been in the Mariners' baseball operations department since 2009, including the last four as director. Peiffer is resigning to pursue law school at UCLA this fall.
The director of baseball operations works under Dipoto and assistant general manager Jeff Kingston and is responsible for things such as assisting in preparation for arbitration cases, contributing to analytic efforts, providing insights into economic- and labor-related research, administration of MLB's rules and regulations, negotiations with agents and player evaluations.
Hollander was a player development and scouting assistant for the Angels from 2008-11, then worked as director of baseball operations from 2012-14 before being promoted to director of player personnel in 2015.
In his most-recent role with the Angels, he focused on player procurement, negotiations of Major League contracts, arbitration, 40-man roster composition and baseball research and information.
The Dayton, Ohio, native graduated from Ohio State in 2001 and earned a law degree from the University of San Diego in 2004.
