Mariners make six roster moves

OF James Jones, RHP Mayckol Guaipe and LHP David Rollins join Mariners

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced the following roster moves prior to today's game vs. the Oakland Athletics:

  • James Jones, OF, recalled from AAA Tacoma
  • Mayckol Guaipe, RHP, recalled from AAA Tacoma
  • David Rollins, LHP, reinstated from the restricted list
  • Roenis Elias, LHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 7/3)
  • Tom Wilhelmsen, RHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 7/3)
  • Vidal Nuño, LHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 7/3)

Jones (#99), Guaipe (#53) and Rollins (#59) will be available for today's game against the A's in Oakland.

The Mariners 40-man roster is now full.

Jones, 26, was hitting .260 (53x204) with 32 runs, 7 doubles, 5 triples, 1 home runs, 17 RBI and 17 steals in 56 games with AAA Tacoma. He appeared in 7 games (0-for-8) during his first stint with Seattle (June 15-24). Over his last 23 games with Tacoma, was hitting .298 (25x84) with 14 runs, 5 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run and 5 RBI (since May 28). He appeared in 108 games with Seattle last season, hitting .250 (78x312) with 46 runs scored, 9 doubles, 5 triples, 9 RBI and recorded a team-leading 27 stolen bases.

Guaipe, 24, is in his second stint with Seattle. In 26 games with AAA Tacoma, he is 0-4 with 5 saves, a 3.94 ERA (13 ER, 29.2 IP) with 25 strikeouts. In his last 10 appearances (since June 5), is 0-2 with 2 saves and a 2.70 ERA (3 ER, 10.0 IP). Made his Major League debut on June 1 vs. New York (AL), retiring all 7 batters he faced in 2.1 innings with 2 strikeouts.

Rollins, 25, was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER, 9.1 IP) with one walk and 8 strikeouts in 7 appearances with AAA Tacoma. He was selected by Seattle from Houston in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 draft (12th selection) in December. He spent last season with AA Corpus Christi in the Houston Astros organization where he was 3-4 with a 3.81 ERA (33 ER, 78.0 IP) with 77 strikeouts in 27 appearances including 12 starts.

Elias, 26, was 4-6 with a 4.27 ERA (37 ER, 78.0 IP) with 64 strikeouts in 13 starts with Seattle after being recalled from AAA Tacoma on April 26. He began the season in Tacoma where he was 2-0 with an 8.04 ERA (14 ER, 15.2 IP) with 12 strikeouts in 3 starts.

Wilhelmsen, 31, was 1-2 with a 4.68 ERA (13 ER, 25.0 IP) with 28 strikeouts in 22 relief appearances this season. Over his last 7 appearances posted a 12.15 ERA (9 ER, 6.2 IP) after starting the season with a 1.96 ERA (4 ER, 18.1 IP) with 21 strikeouts in his first 15 games.

Nuño, 27, posted a 2.53 ERA (3 ER, 10.2 IP) with 10 strikeouts in 9 relief appearances after being acquired by Seattle from Arizona on June 3. Overall this season, has a 2.16 ERA (6 ER, 25.0 IP) in 12 appearances between the Mariners and Diamondbacks.
