Mariners' season opener on ESPN

Seattle visits Texas on April 4, seeks 10th straight Opening Day victory

SEATTLE -- A Mariners team that has won nine straight season openers will get a chance to go for No. 10 in a nationally televised game on ESPN, as the network announced its Opening Day lineup Thursday.

The Mariners will begin their season Monday, April 4 at Texas in a 1:05 p.m. PT game that will be the second of four games broadcast that day by ESPN. The network will also televise three Opening Day games April 3.

Seattle's nine-game winning streak on Opening Day is the longest in the Majors since the Reds won nine in a row from 1983-91 and is tied for the longest in the American League since the St. Louis Browns from 1937-45.

Felix Hernandez has played a big part as he's 6-0 with a 1.48 ERA in eight career Opening Day starts.

After a three-game series in Texas, the Mariners open their home slate April 8 against the A's at Safeco Field.

Major League Baseball also announced that for the second straight year, all games on the final day of the regular season will begin at noon PT. The Mariners conclude their regular season Oct. 2 against the A's at Safeco.
