Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto today announced that the Mariners have promoted Tom McNamara to Special Assistant to the General Manager. McNamara has served as the team's Director of Amateur Scouting since being hired by Seattle on Nov. 10, 2008.

"Tom has shown that he is a keen evaluator of talent, and this promotion will allow us to use him in all areas of our scouting operation: Amateur, Pro and International" Dipoto said.

McNamara's Seattle drafts have produced 21 Major League players, including Kyle Seager, Mike Zunino, James Paxton, Taijuan Walker, Edwin Diaz and Dan Altavilla on the Mariners current big league club.

In his new role, McNamara will continue to scout amateur players in preparation for the annual June draft, but will now also evaluate professional players and be used to scout players around the globe.

"I'm excited about this opportunity," McNamara said. "It will allow me to spend more of my time on the part of my job I like best; that's getting out and scouting players at all levels".
