Jesus Montero recalled from Triple-A Tacoma

Michael Saunders was placed on 15-day disabled list last night with right shoulder inflammation

SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced the following roster moves:

  • Jesus Montero, 1B/DH, recalled from AAA Tacoma
  • Michael Saunders, OF, placed on 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation (postgame on 6/11)

Montero (#63) will be in uniform for tonight's game vs. the New York Yankees (7:10 pm PT).

Montero, 24, hit .270 (60x222) with 15 doubles, 1 triple, 8 home runs, 40 RBI and a .800 OPS in 59 games with the Rainiers this season. In his last 10 games (May 31-June 11), he was hitting .343 (12x35) with 7 runs, 5 doubles and 5 RBI with a .425 on-base percentage and a .911 OPS.

Saunders, 27, had appeared in 52 games with Seattle this season. He was hitting .272 (40x147) with 6 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs and 25 RBI. He left the game June 6 after two at-bats, and had played just one game since (June 10, 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts). In 16 games from May 16 to June 3, Saunders hit .368 (21-for-57) with 3 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs, 18 RBI and a .391 on-base percentage (1.040 OPS).
