Mariners recall right-handed pitcher Erasmo Ramirez

INF Justin Smoak optioned to AAA Tacoma

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced the following roster moves:

  • Erasmo Ramirez , RHP, recalled from AAA Tacoma
  • Justin Smoak , 1B, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game on July 21)

Ramirez (#50) will be in uniform and start tonight's game vs. the New York Mets at Safeco Field (7:10 pm).

Ramirez , 24, is in his fourth stint with the Mariners. In his most recent four-start stint in Tacoma was 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA (10 ER, 25.0 IP) with 21 strikeouts and just four walks. In three previous stints with Seattle this season, is 1-4 with a 4.58 ERA (27 ER, 53.0 IP) with 42 strikeouts in 11 starts. Over his last four starts with Seattle, has a 0.90 ERA (2 ER, 20.0 IP) with 14 strikeouts, lowering his ERA from 6.82 to 4.58 during that span. Overall with Tacoma this season is 2-4 with a 4.12 ERA (25 ER, 54.2 IP) with 43 strikeouts in 9 starts. Also made one start with High-A High Desert.

Smoak , 27, hit .200 (4x20) with a run, a double and an RBI in his latest stint with the Mariners after being recalled on July 11. Overall with Seattle is hitting .208 (49x236) with 27 runs, 13 doubles, 7 home runs and 30 RBI in 69 games. In an earlier stint with Tacoma (rehab assignment/option), hit .284 (21x74) with 4 doubles, 3 home runs and 11 RBI in 19 games with AAA Tacoma.
