Mariners recall right-hander Erasmo Ramirez from AAA Tacoma

Left-handed pitcher James Paxton optioned to AAA Tacoma

SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced the following roster moves:

  •          Erasmo Ramirez, RHP, recalled from AAA Tacoma
  •          James Paxton, LHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma

Ramirez, (#50), will start today's 12:40 pm game against the Texas Rangers at Safeco Field.

Ramirez, 24, was 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA (5 ER, 15.0 IP) in his latest two-start stint with Tacoma. In five stints with the Mariners, he is 1-5 with a 4.06 ERA (29 ER, 64.1 IP) with 54 strikeouts. In his last 6 starts he is 0-1 with a 1.15 ERA (4 ER, 31.1 IP) with 26 strikeouts, lowering his ERA from 6.82 to 4.06. Overall with Tacoma this season is 5-5 with a 3.63 ERA (34 ER, 84.1 IP) with 64 strikeouts in 14 starts. Also made one start with High-A High Desert.

Paxton, 25, was 2-1 with a 1.65 ERA (5 ER, 27.1 IP) with 20 strikeouts in 5 starts since coming off of the 60-day disabled list (strained left latissimus dorsi muscle) on Aug. 2. In two stints with Seattle this season is 4-1 with a 1.83 ERA (8 ER, 39.1 IP) with 33 strikeouts in 7 starts. In four rehab starts with Tacoma (3) and Everett (1), he was 0-2 with a 4.85 ERA (7 ER, 13.0 IP) with 16 strikeouts in the minors this season.
