Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves: 
 
•    Robinson Canó, INF, reinstated from MLB Restricted List.
•    Casey Lawrence, RHP, optioned to Triple-A Tacoma (post-game on Aug. 13).
•    Sam Tuivailala, RHP, transferred to the 60-day disabled list (strained right Achilles).
 
The Mariners 40-man roster is currently at 40 players following today's roster moves. 
 
Canó (#22) will be in uniform and available for tonight's (7:05 pm PT) game vs. the Oakland Athletics at the Oakland Coliseum.  
 
Canó, 35, has been out of the lineup since being placed on the disabled list on May 14 after sustaining a fractured fifth metacarpal on his right hand after being hit by a pitch in the 3rd on May 13 at Detroit. He was suspended on May 15 by Major League Baseball for 80 games for violation of the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Canó appeared in 5 games on a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Tacoma (2 games, 8/6-7) and Short-A Everett (3 games, 8/9-11), combining to bat .389 (7x18) with 4 runs scored 1 doubles, 2 home runs, 6 RBI and 2 walks. 
 
Prior to his injury, Canó appeared in 39 games with the Mariners this season, batting .287 (41x143) with 24 runs, 10 doubles, 4 home runs, 23 RBI, 21 walks, a .385 on-base percentage and a .441 slugging mark (.825 OPS). At the time of his injury, he was among American League leaders in walks (T13th) and on-base percentage (14th). Since making his Major League debut on May 3, 2005, he has appeared in 2,037 games, the 2nd-most of any player in that span. 
 
Since joining the Mariners for the 2014 season, he has hit .294 (768x2608) with 369 runs, 147 doubles, 5 triples, 101 home runs and 384 RBI in 662 games. He signed a 10-year contract through the 2023 season on Dec. 12, 2013 after playing nine seasons with New York-AL. In 14 Major League seasons, he is a career .304 (2417x7944) hitter with 1168 runs, 522 doubles, 33 triples, 305 home runs and 1,206 RBI in 2,036 career games.
 
Lawrence, 30, has appeared in four stints with the Mariners this season (also: 3/28-4/14, 5/1-12, 7/13-28, 8/9-13), going 0-0 with an 8.31 ERA (16 ER, 17.1 IP) in 8 relief appearances. He allowed 3 runs on 3 hits while walking 2 and striking out 1 over 3.0 innings last night at Oakland. Lawrence is 7-3 with 1 saves and a 2.75 ERA (24 ER, 78.2 IP) in 15 games, 12 starts with AAA Tacoma.
 
In parts of 2 Major League seasons with the Blue Jays (2017) and Mariners (2017-c), he is 2-3 with a 6.81 ERA (55 ER, 72.2 IP) with 63 strikeouts and 32 walks in 35 games (2 starts). He was claimed off waivers by the Mariners from Toronto on May 11, 2017. The native of McSherrytown, PA, made his Major League debut with the Blue Jays on April 8, 2017 at Tampa Bay. Lawrence was originally signed by Toronto as a non-drafted free agent on June 15, 2010. 
 
Tuivailala, 27, was originally placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right Achilles on August 9. He went 1-0, 1.69 (1 ER, 5.1 IP) in 5 appearances with Seattle this season. Tuivailala was acquired by Seattle from St. Louis in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Seth Elledge on July 27. Prior to joining the Mariners he went 3-3 with 4 holds and a 3.69 ERA (13 ER, 31.2 IP) in 31 games with the Cardinals. He had 21 scoreless outings in his 31 appearances, and allowed 1 run or fewer in 29 of his 31 games, limiting right-handed hitters to a .230 (17x74) average with just 2 extra-base hits (2B, HR). 
 
Tuivailala was the Cardinals 3rd round selection in the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft. He was converted from shortstop to pitcher in 2012 and made the jump from rookie ball to the Majors in just 87 appearances, debuting vs. the Reds on Sept. 9, 2014.
