Mariners RHP Hisashi Iwakuma activated from 15-Day Disabled List

Iwakuma will make the start tonight in homestand opener vs. Detroit.

SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced the following roster moves prior to tonight's game vs. the Detroit Tigers:

  •  Hisashi Iwakuma, RHP, recalled from rehab assignment at AAA Tacoma and activated from 15-day disabled list
  • James Jones, OF, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 7/5)

Iwakuma, 34, has been on the disabled list since April 24 with a right lat strain. Iwakuma made three rehab appearances with short-season A Everett (0-0, 2.45 ERA, 1 GS) and Triple-A Tacoma (1-0, 0.93 ERA, 2 GS). Iwakuma's last start with the Mariners was April 20 vs. Houston. He will start for the Mariners in tonight's series/homestand opener vs. the Detroit Tigers (7:10 pm at Safeco Field).

Jones, 26, appeared in one game with Seattle after being recalled from Tacoma on July 4. He started in center field yesterday in the Mariners 2-1 win at Oakland, going 0-for-4 (0-for-12 in 8 G with Seattle this season). Jones is hitting .260 (53x204) with 32 runs, 7 doubles, 5 triples, 1 home runs, 17 RBI and 17 steals in 56 games with the Rainiers.
