Mariners Rule 5 Draft results

Seattle adds LHP Paul Paez and OF Chuck Taylor in minor league phase of Rule 5 Draft.

NATIONAL HARBOR, MD -- Seattle Mariners announced today from the Major League Winter Meetings the results of the Major League and Minor League phases of the Rule 5 Draft:
A player selected in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft must be kept on the Major League 25-man roster of the drafting team for the entirety of next season, and the selected player must remain active (not on the disabled list) for a minimum of 90 days. If the player does not remain on the Major League roster, he is offered back to the team from which he was selected.
Paez, 24, combined to go 4-1 with a 3.88 ERA (24 ER, 55.2 IP) with 55 strikeouts in 55.2 innings with High-A St. Lucie and AAA Binghampton in the New York-NL organization. With High-A St. Lucie, he posted a 1.00 ERA (4 ER, 36.0 IP) with 28 strikeouts in 20 relief outings. The left-hander has combined to post a 12-7 record with a 3.29 ERA (60 ER, 164.0 IP) with 143 strikeouts in 100 games, all in relief in four minor league seasons with the Mets. He was drafted by New York-NL in the 38th round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Rio Hondo College (Whittier, CA).
Taylor, 23, combined to hit .261 (62x238) with 38 runs, 11 doubles, 11 triples, 4 home runs, 30 RBI and a .354 on-base percentage in 83 games with AA Mobile and A Visalia in the Diamondbacks organization. Taylor was on the minor league disabled list from April 11 - May 17 with a right shoulder dislocation. In five minor league seasons with the D-backs, he has hit .268 (411x1531) with 238 runs, 61 doubles, 18 triples, 12 home runs, 154 RBI and a .356 on-base percentage in 425 games. Taylor has played all three outfield positions in his career. He was drafted by Arizona in the 4th round of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Mansfield Timberview HS (Arlington, TX).
Gadea, 22, combined for a record of 4-1 with 2 saves and a 2.88 ERA (18 ER, 68.2 IP) with 95 strikeouts and 14 walks in 15 totals games (8 starts) with AZL Mariners and A Clinton last season. The 6-foot-5, 188-pound right-hander began the season with AZL Mariners, where he went 1-1 with 1 save and a 2.95 ERA (6 ER, 18.1 IP) while recording 23 strikeouts and 3 walks in 5 appearances, including 2 starts. He joined Clinton in July and went on to post a record of 3-0 with 1 save and a 2.15 ERA (12 ER, 50.1 IP) with 72 strikeouts and 11 walks in 10 outings, including 6 starts, with the Mariners single-A affiliate. The native of Esteli, Nicaragua, originally signed with Seattle as a non-drafted international free agent. In parts of 4 minor league seasons in the Mariners organization (2013-2016), Gadea has compiled a career record of 17-6 with 2 saves and a 2.64 ERA (66 ER, 225.1 IP) with 228 strikeouts and 62 walks in 45 career games (36 starts).
Wilson, 24, hit .226 (83x368) with 56 runs, 14 doubles, 1 triple, 13 home runs and 49 RBI in 104 games with High-A Bakersfield last season. In four minor league seasons, he has hit .249 (304x1220) with 170 runs, 60 doubles, 10 triples, 42 home runs and 179 RBI in 344 games in the Mariners organization. He was drafted by Seattle in the 2nd round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Stanford University (Palo Alto, CA).
