October 31st, 2017

The Mariners cleared a spot on their 40-man roster by outrighting right-hander to Triple-A Tacoma, the team announced Tuesday. Their 40-man roster currently sits at 39.
Lawrence, 30, reached the Majors for the first time in 2017 and had four stints with the Mariners after the team selected him off waivers in May.
Lawrence had a 5.57 ERA with Seattle and struck out 45 batters in 42 innings, all in relief. He made four appearances with Toronto (two starts) before being claimed by Seattle and was mainly a starter in the Minors before this year.
He earned his first career win after throwing 2 1/3 innings on Aug. 1 against the Rangers and struck out a career-high nine batters over five innings on June 1 against the Rockies.
The Mariners have three pitchers on the 60-day disabled list who will need to be added to the team's 40-man roster soon -- , and Drew Smyly -- but they also have five impending free agents who come off the roster.
Seattle will have a number of prospects eligible for the upcoming Rule 5 Draft in December if they are not added to the 40-man roster, according to MLB Pipeline, including 13th-ranked Luis Liberato.
