Mariners shift rotation to separate lefties

June 10th, 2016

SEATTLE -- With Felix Hernandez (strained right calf) 12 days into what likely will be an extended time on the disabled list, the Mariners have made a slight adjustment in the rotation.
Hisashi Iwakuma will be given an extra day of rest after his start Friday against the Rangers. His next start will be Friday, June 17, at Boston.
"It's a little adjustment to split up the left-handers (James Paxton and Wade Miley)," Mariners manager Scott Servais said Thursday. "We were forced into it with Felix going down. We can split the lefties with the off-day coming up [Monday]."
Paxton will start Saturday, then next Thursday with Iwakuma following. Miley would start Sunday, then next Saturday.
Hernandez, walking around with a boot on his lower leg, has not tested the leg yet.
"He's feeling a little better but not moving at the pace he was hoping it would," Servais said. "He's keeping his arm active, best he can."
Worth noting
• Center fielder Leonys Martin, who has been on the 15-day disabled list since May 26 with a strained left hamstring, is expected to be activated before Friday's game against Texas. Martin was expected to play in a rehab game Thursday with Triple-A Tacoma but was scratched because of the wet outfield conditions. The club did not want to take a chance at re-injury.
