Mariners tender contracts to arb-eligible trio

SEATTLE -- After trading Mark Trumbo to the Orioles, the Mariners tendered contracts to their remaining three arbitration-eligible players -- relievers Charlie Furbush and Anthony Bass and center fielder Leonys Martin -- prior to Wednesday night's non-tender deadline.

The move assures that Furbush, Bass and Martin remain on the Mariners' 40-man roster and that their 2016 salaries will be determined either by coming to terms in the next two months or going through the arbitration process that ultimately determines the player's salary via an independent panel.

Martin was acquired in a trade with the Rangers last month. He earned $3.75 million with Texas last season in the final year of a five-year contract signed as a free agent out of Cuba in 2011. MLBtraderumors.com, which has been pretty accurate in its arbitration estimates in the past, has projected Martin to earn $3.75 million again this year.

Furbush is projected to earn $1.7 million and Bass $1.1 million.

Furbush made $1.3 million last season and has three years of arbitration eligibility remaining. The 29-year-old left-hander posted a 2.08 ERA in 21 2/3 innings over 33 appearances last year before spending the final three months on the disabled list with a shoulder injury.

Bass, acquired from the Rangers in the same trade that brought Martin to Seattle, is entering his first year of arbitration eligibility. The 28-year-old put up a 4.50 ERA in 64 innings in 33 games while earning $725,000 last season.

Trumbo was projected to earn $9.1 million in his final year of arbitration, but was dealt to Baltimore along with reliever C.J. Riefenhauser for catcher Steve Clevenger on Wednesday. Trumbo made $6.7 million in 2015.
