Mariners Third Baseman Kyle Seager Named to American League All-Star Team

Mariners Third Baseman Will Replace Toronto's Edwin Encarnacion

American League All-Star manager John Farrell of the Boston Red Sox announced today, in conjunction with Major League Baseball, that Seattle Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager will replace Edwin Encarnacion of the Toronto Blue Jays on the A.L.'s active roster for the 85th All-Star Game.

Encarnacion (.277, 26 HR, 70 RBI, .368 OBP, .591 SLG), an American League All-Star for the second consecutive year, was placed on the disabled list today with a right quadriceps strain. The left-handed-hitting Seager, 26, will make his Midsummer Classic debut in his fourth Major League season. On the year, the University of North Carolina product is batting .274 with 13 home runs, 59 RBI, 21 doubles and a .483 slugging percentage. Seager, who has been named the Mariners MVP by the Seattle chapter of the BBWAA for each of the two previous seasons, will join Mariners teammates Felix Hernandez and fellow infielder Robinson Cano on the A.L. squad.

The 2014 All-Star Game will be played at Target Field on Tuesday, July 15th. The 85th All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports; in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS; and worldwide by partners in more than 200 countries via MLB International's independent feed. ESPN Radio and ESPN Radio Deportes will provide exclusive national radio coverage of the All-Star Game. MLB Network, MLB.com and Sirius XM also will provide comprehensive All-Star Week coverage.
