SEATTLE-- Red-hot Seth Smith hit his first career grand slam as the Mariners completed an impressive four-game sweep over first-place Baltimore with Sunday's commanding, 9-4 win.
Seattle has won seven of its last nine games following a six-game losing streak and won six of seven against Baltimore this season. The Orioles, who saw their lead in the American League East drop to three games, are 2-4 on their three-city road trip.
Smith, who homered in all four games of the series, went deep off Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez in the third inning. Kyle Seager also drove in a pair of runs for a Mariners team that outscored Baltimore 31-15 in the four-game set.
"Baltimore's got a really good club," Seattle manager Scott Servais said. "They came in here really hot. And when we're locked in and everybody's engaged and doing their job, we're pretty good."

Baltimore's Mark Trumbo hit his Major League-leading 24th homer in the fourth inning off Mariners starter Hisashi Iwakuma.
"It was tough," Trumbo said of the sweep. "It's just kind of one of those things. They swung the bat extremely well. I don't think anybody would have matched up very well with them this series. Sometimes you are going to run into it. Don't have to go into depth to explain it. Some guys just had wonderful series."
Jimenez went 4 1/3 innings and gave up six earned runs, giving him a 6.95 ERA on the year.

Jimenez, O's starters fall short The righty, who recently rejoined the rotation after consecutive wins against the Padres, couldn't keep that momentum going. Instead, Jimenez labored, getting into six full-counts. The six earned runs allowed matched his season high. More >
"It's disappointing," Jimenez said. "There's no doubt about it. As a starting pitcher, you want to be the best out there for your team. We haven't been able to do the job. It's not fun, at all. We have to find a way to get back on track and keep fighting."
Double trouble:Nelson Cruz, Seager and Adam Lind hit back-to-back-to-back doubles in the seventh inning to drive in three runs and give the Mariners a 9-4 lead. Robinson Cano got the one-out rally started with a single to right field. Cruz then bounced a long fly ball over the fence for a ground-rule double. Seager hit them both in, and Lind followed that by scoring Seager.
"Those are the kind of at-bats you need to see," Servais said. "They don't always go out of the park."

Miranda debuts: Recalled before the game, lefty reliever Ariel Miranda took over for Jimenez. He allowed three runs on four hits over two innings in his big league debut. More >
"Felt good for Miranda, getting an opportunity," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "He presented himself well early, but a lot of it comes from an ambush, not knowing. And you can see the second time through the order kind of sneaks up on him."

Smith's grand slam was his 10th home run, making him the seventh Mariner to hit double-digit home runs this season. This marks the first season Seattle has had seven players with 10 or more home runs before the All-Star break, and they are the first team in the league to reach that feat this year.
