The complete roster for the 2016 T-Mobile Home Run Derby has not been finalized, but while nothing is official just yet, things are looking bright for fans of the big fly.

The Major Leagues' current home run leader, as well as the event's defending champion and one of the sport's most promising young players are among those planning to take their rips in the popular format that was launched last summer. This year's festivities will take place at San Diego's Petco Park on Monday, leading into Tuesday's All-Star Game presented by MasterCard (7:30 p.m. ET on FOX).

After smacking his 25th and 26th homers of the season at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday, taking possession of the MLB lead, Orioles slugger Mark Trumbo said he plans to participate in the Derby. Trumbo and Dodgers rookie shortstop Corey Seager will be two of those trying to knock off 2015 winner Todd Frazier of the White Sox, with reports also indicating that the latter two will be swinging for the fences in San Diego.
An announcement of the full field of participants is expected later today.
Frazier, in his first season with Chicago, is set to defend his title even though he is not currently part of the American League's roster for the Midsummer Classic. As a member of the Reds, the third baseman played the role of hometown hero last July in Cincinnati, electrifying the crowd at Great American Ball Park.

Coming off a second-place finish to Yoenis Cespedes in 2014 at Target Field, Frazier conquered the new Derby format, which featured an eight-player, single-elimination format and timed rounds. Frazier defeated Prince Fielder and Josh Donaldson in the first two rounds before besting the Dodgers' Joc Pederson in the finals, 15-14, with a blast in the bonus round.
"Bringing this hardware home is something I've always wanted to do and it's just an unbelievable feeling," Frazier said afterward. "Once I wake up in the morning, understand really what happened, it is going to be exciting to see this in my house."

Frazier has gone deep 23 times this season, tied for third in the Majors with the Rockies' Nolan Arenado, behind only the Cubs' Kris Bryant (25) and Trumbo. In his first season with the Orioles, Trumbo already has surpassed his homer total from 2015 and is eight away from tying his personal best, set three years ago with the Angels.
Trumbo made his only other All-Star appearance in 2012 and also took part in that year's Derby at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. He cleared the fence 13 times that night, advancing to the second round, where he dropped a "swing-off" to Jose Bautista for a chance to move on to the finals.

Seager, the younger brother of Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager, has quickly transformed himself from a top prospect into a key cog in the Dodgers' lineup. After playing 27 games for Los Angeles late last season, the 22-year-old has whacked 17 homers this year, trailing only Rockies shortstop Trevor Story (19) among rookies.
Now Seager will have a chance to put that power swing to the test against some of the best sluggers in the sport.
