Marlins Acquire Arias, Bremer from Cubs

MIAMI - The Marlins today acquired RHP Jose Arias and RHP Tyler Bremer from the Cubs in exchange for RHP Jacob Turner. The announcement was made by President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.

Arias was 1-1 with a 1.77 ERA (40.2 IP/8 ER) and three saves for Single-A Kane County this season, striking out 51 batters in 25 relief appearances. He registered a strikeout-per-9.0 innings rate of 11.3 for Kane County, recording multiple strikeouts in 16 of his 25 outings, including six in 3.0 innings on May 10 at Burlington. Arias is a native of Santiago, Dominican Republic, and was signed by the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent in 2010.

Bremer also began his season with Kane County, going 5-1 with 12 saves and a 2.43 ERA (37.0/10) in 28 relief appearances, with 51 strikeouts (12.4 per 9) . He was promoted to Daytona in the Florida State League at the end of June and was 0-1, 4.70 (15.1/8) in eight appearances, with 12 strikeouts. A native of Berkeley, California, Bremer was a 27th round selection of the Cubs in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. He was a Northwest League All-Star in 2013 after striking out 48 batters in 29.1 innings over 23 relief appearances for Single-A Boise, with a 2.15 ERA (7 ER).

Both players have been assigned to Single-A Greensboro.
