Marlins acquire catcher and left-handed reliever from Rangers

C Tomas Telis & LHP Cody Ege acquired in exchange for Sam Dyson

The Miami Marlins today acquired catcher Tomas Telis and Minor League left-handed reliever Cody Ege from the Texas Rangers in exchange for RHP Sam Dyson. The announcement was made by Marlins' President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.

Telis, 24, began 2015 with Triple-A Round Rock, batting .291 with 15 doubles, five home runs and 25 RBI in 70 games. He was promoted to Texas on July 17 and in six games with the Rangers has two hits and two RBI in 11 AB. Over his eight-year career, the El Tigre, Venezuela native has hit .291 with 36 home runs and 331 RBI in 651 Minor League games, while batting .241 with two doubles and 10 RBI in 24 Major League contests. He was signed by Texas as a non-drafted free agent in 2007.

Ege, 24, has gone 6-2 with two saves and a 1.00 ERA in 35 appearances between Single-A High Desert and Double-A Frisco in 2015. In two professional seasons, the Sioux City, Iowa native has gone 14-3 with a 2.29 ERA in 89 appearances. He was a 15th-round draft selection by the Rangers in 2013 out of the University of Louisville.

Telis will report to Miami and Ege will be assigned to Double-A Jacksonville.
