Marlins acquire Reed in trade with Dodgers
MIAMI -- The Marlins acquired Minor League left-handed reliever Chris Reed, a former first-round pick, from the Dodgers on Wednesday for lefty Grant Dayton.
Reed, 25, is being added to Miami's 40-man roster, and he will be assigned to Triple-A New Orleans.
The 16th overall pick by the Dodgers in 2011, Reed was a closer in college at Stanford.
Reed has pitched at Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, where his combined record is 2-2 with a 5.97 ERA in 24 relief appearances, plus one save. In 34 2/3 innings, he's struggled with command, walking 22 while striking out 21.
In 408 career Minor League innings, Reed has a 4.28 ERA with 337 strikeouts and 189 walks.
Dayton, 27, was the Marlins' 11th-round pick in 2010.
In 25 relief appearances this season with New Orleans, he posted a 2.83 ERA with 35 strikeouts and five walks.
