CLEVELAND -- The Marlins added infield depth on Saturday, activating Derek Dietrich from the disabled list.
Dietrich, who filled in at second base while Dee Gordon was suspended, had been sidelined since Aug. 18 with a bruised right knee. He went 0-for-2 with a sacrifice fly batting sixth and playing first base in his return in an 8-3 loss to the Indians.

"I'm just looking forward to getting my bat in the lineup and playing quality defense wherever I'm placed and do whatever I possibly can to help the team win, because this is a crucial few weeks at the end of the season, and we're still in it, we're right there," Dietrich said. "I just want to be able to compete any way I can."
The 27-year-old entered hitting .276/.369/.403 with four home runs and 32 RBIs in 106 games this season and likely will help as the left-handed portion of a platoon at first base.
"He had such a good first half for us, just getting on base, giving us quality at-bats," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "And he gives us another lefty in the lineup. That's what we really get back to. That's what we've missed in [first baseman Justin Bour], too."
Worth noting
• Bour and left-handed starting pitcher Wei-Yin Chen will participate in another simulated game on Tuesday as they each work their way back from injuries. The duo participated in a sim game on Friday, which vice president of pitching development Jim Benedict called "as good a sim game as he's seen in a while."
"Usually, that's a situation where they're just getting back, they might not have the energy, but I think both guys are really fighting to get back and help this club," Mattingly said. "It seems like both guys were really into it."
Chen has been sidelined since July 20 with a sprain in his throwing elbow. Bour has not played since July 2 with a high right ankle sprain. He could return within the next week.
