Cooper to undergo surgery on injured right wrist

Marlins utility man played just 14 games this season due to injuries

BOSTON -- , who has not played since July 20 after sustaining a right wrist sprain, is scheduled to have surgery Friday, the Marlins announced Tuesday.
The procedure will be performed at the University of Miami Health System by Dr. Patrick Owens, a hand specialist.
The outfielder/first baseman appeared in just 14 Major League games this season. He hit .212 (7-for-33) and was limited by various injuries. He re-injured the wrist while on a rehab stint with Class A Advanced Jupiter, and was shut down Thursday after going 1-for-15.
With limited time this season, Cooper, the Marlins' Opening Day right fielder who was acquired from the Yankees in November, may face roster competition next season with , (expected to be activated from the disabled list Saturday), , , and .
