MIAMI -- As if the awe-inspiring home run to center didn't get your attention, Giancarlo Stanton also made an impression with his momentum-changing throw on Wednesday night in the Marlins' 4-3 win over the D-backs at Marlins Park.
Stanton was a dual threat in Miami's ninth win in 10 games, blasting a two-run homer while also turning in the defensive play of the night.

"Everybody wants to talk about the home runs, because it's kind of fun to see balls go that far," manager Don Mattingly said. "But from a team standpoint, a manager standpoint, you like the fact he plays both sides."

Stanton's two-run homer capped a three-run third inning, and it ended up being the decisive hit of the night, giving Miami a four-run advantage.
Rubby De La Rosa brought a 94-mph fastball that Stanton didn't miss, as he crushed it to center field. Statcast™ tracked it to have landed an estimated 436 feet from home plate, with an exit velocity of 111 mph.

The homer was Stanton's ninth of the season and sixth in the past 10 games.
"I got a heater over the plate," Stanton said. "He throws hard. Just make sure I'm on time."
Stanton added a double and was intentionally walked for the first time this season.
But his impact in the late innings came in the field, when he threw out Yasmany Tomas attempting to stretch a single to a double to lead off the sixth inning against Jose Urena.
Stanton ran down the ball in the right-field corner, spun and made a perfect throw to shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria. Tomas was initially called safe. But Miami challenged, and after a short review, the call was overturned.
"Throwing him out at second, it's just a race between me and him pretty much," Stanton said. "Usually when you hit a ball off the wall, you're not going to run as hard as you can out of the box, so that's my advantage on that play. I thought it was much closer than the replay showed. I saw Hech grab it, have to come up with the bounce and then come down."
The Marlins are now 14-12 and are continuing to hit their stride.
"It's been great," Stanton said. "We've been having a great time. Everybody has been contributing, too; that's the best part of it. So it's never one guy to look to for the win. We've got to keep it going."
