Stanton back; Bour, Prado to join him soon?

Slugger homers in return from bruised wrist

June 13th, 2017

MIAMI -- 's right wrist is still sore and discolored, but his play didn't show it Tuesday.
The outfielder launched a towering two-run home run in the fifth inning of Miami's 8-1 win over the A's at Marlins Park, his first hit since he sustained the injury on a hit-by-pitch Saturday in Pittsburgh.

"It feels better hitting than throwing actually," Stanton said. "It's just the swelling that causes some pain. For me, if I know I'm not gonna put any further damage, the pain is just in your head."
Stanton returned to the starting lineup Tuesday for the first time since the wrist scare Saturday. He said he used the club's off-day Monday to ice, compress and work on his range of motion for the wrist, on which initial X-rays came back negative.

Stanton did strike out in a pinch-hitting appearance in the eighth inning of Sunday's 3-1 loss to Pittsburgh, a sign that pointed to a possible return Tuesday.
"We knew it wasn't a fracture," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "I think at that point you know it's just a bruise and it's get the swelling out of there, get the inflammation out of there, and at that point he's going to be fine."
Mattingly also sounded firm in keeping Stanton behind Dee Gordon at the No. 2 spot in the lineup, even when third baseman returns from the disabled list.
Stanton is hitting .354 with six home runs and 14 RBIs in 18 games since moving to the two-hole.
"It's going pretty well and I don't want to mess with that," Mattingly said. "I think in general we don't move 'G' around. He's doing well. Dee's doing well. We've scored some runs with that alignment, so right now I think we hang with that and let Martin fill in and go from there."
Bour close to returning
Marlins first baseman is hopeful he'll join the team in Atlanta on Friday after playing in a rehab game Wednesday with Class A Advanced Jupiter in Port St. Lucie, Fla. He's been on the 10-day disabled list with a left ankle bruise since June 6.

"Feeling good," Bour said. "Progressing as planned and looking to be back Friday in Atlanta."
Bour said he's been taking ground balls and running for a couple days, but not without some slight pain. He said Tuesday would be a "full day" for baseball activities.
"I mean, there's pain with any sort of injury in the recovery process," the slugger said, "but nothing to keep me from doing what I need to do."
Prado nearing rehab start
Another infielder close to returning is Prado. On the 10-day DL with a strained right hamstring since May 9, Prado will play his first rehab game Thursday with Jupiter at Port St. Lucie.
Mattingly said he hopes Prado can return sometime during the Marlins' 10-game homestand, which will begin next Monday.
"The biggest thing for Martin is the running," the manager said. "You know, running the bases is probably one of the things ... you start running the curves and putting pressure on the hamstring on the turns. That's one of the last things that guys usually do. So that's going well."
