JUPITER, Fla. -- Veteran third baseman Martin Prado appears ready to come off the disabled list and return to the Marlins lineup soon.
Prado, who has been nursing a Grade 1 right hamstring strain that he sustained March 15 while playing for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, completed his rehab assignment Saturday night with Class A Advanced Jupiter.
Prado singled and walked twice before exiting the game after the seventh inning of the Hammerheads' 1-0 loss to Dunedin in Jupiter.
Prado was flawless in the field, cleanly fielding all three balls hit his way, including a nice back-handed snag of a sharply hit ball in the sixth inning. Prado quickly pivoted and fired a perfect throw to first.
"Very clean, very easy, no panic," Jupiter manager Kevin Randel said of Prado's defensive play that saved two runs.
Prado was unavailable for comment, but the Marlins likely will make a decision on whether he's ready to come off the disabled list before they leave for Seattle, where they begin a three-game series against the Mariners on Monday. The Marlins close out their current homestand against the Mets on Sunday at Marlins Park.
Prado finished his four-game rehab assignment here -- sort of an extended spring training -- 3-for-9, with three walks. He was flawless in the field and did not show any lingering signs from the hamstring strain he sustained a month ago.
"He looks fine to me," Randel said of Prado. "Martin's Martin. He's a straight professional, goes about his work every day. He's a true pro. He was great to have in the clubhouse for these four days for the young kids."
