Prado progressing, could return late next week

Marlins leaning towards sending third baseman on rehab assignment

April 8th, 2017

NEW YORK -- Before being reinstated from the disabled list, likely will go on a rehab assignment. But the Marlins will have a clearer picture of the 33-year-old third baseman's status once they return from the road trip on Monday.
Prado opened the season on the 10-day disabled list due to a right hamstring strain he suffered on March 15 while playing for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic. has been getting most of the work at third base.
"Martin is feeling really good, which is always a dangerous thing with the hammy at this point," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "Guys start wanting to do more. His progression is getting more and more, but we'll see him when we get back in Miami. We'll let the trainers let us know where they're at."
There is a chance Prado could come off the disabled list late in the homestand. Miami's home opener is Tuesday against the Braves, and after that two-game set, the Mets are at Marlins Park for four games -- April 13-16.
Because Prado hasn't played in game situations since mid-March, the Marlins are leaning towards sending him on a rehab assignment.
"There has been talk of a rehab assignment," Mattingly said. "That's a possibility."
Worth noting:
* Jeff Locke, on the disabled list with left shoulder tendinitis, continues his throwing progression.
"When we left Spring Training, he was basically starting his Spring Training," Mattingly said. "I don't think we look for him in the month of April. We're down the road a little bit with him. We're looking for him to build up."
* 's primary role is a right-handed hitter off the bench, who can spot start for at first base. Moore also played left field in Spring Training. On Saturday, he was taking grounders at third base during batting practice. The club is striving to make Moore as versatile as possible.
