July 25th, 2017

ARLINGTON -- Left-hander pitched seven scoreless innings in his second start since returning from the Minor Leagues and the Marlins went on for a 4-0 victory over the Rangers on Monday night.
supported Conley with a pair of home runs, the seventh time he has hit two in a game this season and the 25th multi-homer game of his career. He has 32 homers for the season, the most in the National League, and 11 of those have come in July.
"When he's on the field, he's right," said Marlins manager Don Mattingly, on Stanton being injury-free and having a big season. "If he doesn't miss time, big chunks of time, then the numbers are going to be big. He's been able to stay on the field. He's feeling good. At some point, I'd like to get him off the field, but if he's going to be on the field, he's going to be good."

Stanton said the key to the night was Conley's seven shutout innings.
"It was good," Stanton said. "Conley, he brought the demeanor and that drive I like out of him. He's got to keep that up. He was making them look foolish out there. He's been known to do that. He's got to keep that positive drive going."

Rangers starter took the loss, allowing three runs in seven innings. The loss comes in the opener of a nine-game homestand for the Rangers after they had swept three from the Rays in Tampa Bay. had four singles for the Rangers, giving him 2,993 hits for his career.
• Beltre approaches milestone, but RISP woes continue
"Our job is to win ballgames, not individual performances," Beltre said. "A tough loss … we couldn't find a way to crack the left-hander. We created some situations but couldn't find the big hit."

Conley allowed seven hits, did not walk a batter and struck out seven in earning his first Major League victory since May 3. This was only the second time in 44 Major League starts that Conley did not walk a batter.
"I can't really tell you what I was really thinking about doing out there," Conley said, especially pleased by not walking anyone. "Just grabbing the ball, convicted about a pitch and throwing it the best I could. I was able to do that for a pretty good stretch there tonight."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED

"Punch 'em early, ha," Stanton said with a smile.

Beltre doubled off: Beltre's second hit was a leadoff single in the fourth inning. After Mike Napoli popped out, ripped a smash down the first-base line. First baseman made a diving stop and landed on the bag for the out. Beltre tried to scramble back to first but Moore tagged him out for an inning-ending double play.

QUOTABLE
"He pitched well, you've got to give him credit. He did what he needed to do to win a ballgame. We just couldn't get anything going, it was one of those nights." -- Rangers first baseman Mike Napoli, on Conley
"I've seen him all over the AL West and playing all the time. It was actually cool for me. He took a swing on one of my changeups there and went down to a knee like I've always seen him do growing up, so that was kind of cool. Thankfully, he didn't hit [a homer] off of me or off the scoreboard or anything. It was fun playing against him tonight." -- Conley, who went to Washington State and grew up in the state of Washington, on facing Beltre
"It seemed like the game kind of went that way for me. I'm encouraged by that. Those guys are always great behind me. That's what makes it easy to go out there and throw pitches in the strike zone when you can. Even on a few pitches today, I kind of got away with a little bit. Weren't quite as sharp or maybe more over the plate than I wanted there -- Conley
