Stanton on verge of first 100-RBI campaign

ATLANTA -- Four home runs separate Giancarlo Stanton from matching the Marlins' all-time home run record of 154 held by Dan Uggla.

Stanton also is closing in on a milestone no Miami player has achieved since Uggla in 2010.

After driving in a run in the Marlins' 4-0 win over the Braves on Saturday night, Stanton boosted his RBI total to 98. No Miami player has knocked in 100 runs since Uggla had 105 in '10, his final year with the franchise.

"It's a nice number," president of baseball operations Michael Hill said. "It will be the first time in his career that he's had it. I think that just speaks to what we said were our offseason goals coming into this year. That was to have a healthy Giancarlo. Obviously, he changes our lineup immensely when he is healthy and playing every day."

No Marlin has won the National League home run or RBI crown. Stanton, with 33 homers, has a chance to do both. He paces in both categories.

Adrian Gonzalez of the Dodgers and Atlanta's Justin Upton were second in RBIs with 91 entering Sunday.

The elusive century mark in RBIs hasn't come easily in the history of the Marlins.

It's been reached 15 total times, with Stanton on the brink of raising it 16.

Preston Wilson holds the franchise RBI record with 121 set in 2000.

Miguel Cabrera knocked in more than 100 runs a franchise-most four times -- '04 (112), '05 (116), '06 (114) and '07 (119). The only other player to do it more than once was Mike Lowell in '03 (105) and '01 (100).

Twice, two Marlins had 100 RBIs in the same season -- Cabrera and Carlos Delgado (115) in '05, and Hanley Ramirez (106) and Jorge Cantu (100) in '09.
