Marlins sign Michael Morse to two-year contract
Nova High School Grad Batted .300 in Postseason for WS Champs
MIAMI - The Miami Marlins today announced that they have signed free agent INF/OF Michael Morse to a two-year contract. The announcement was made by Marlins' President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.
Morse, 32, batted .279 (122x438) with 16 home runs and 61 RBI in 131 games for San Francisco in 2014, and helped the Giants to a World Series victory by batting .300 (6x20) in 10 postseason games. He drove in four runs in six games during the WS against Kansas City, including the game-winning run in Game 7, his second RBI of the series-clinching 3-2 win.
A career .281 hitter in 704 Major League games, Morse has 99 home runs and 333 RBI, including career highs of 31 homers and 95 RBI in 2011 with Washington (146 games).
Morse, a native of Ft. Lauderdale, was a first-team All-State selection as a senior at Nova High School in Davie. He was drafted by the White Sox in the third round of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft and made his ML debut with Seattle in 2005. In addition to the Mariners (2005-08, 2013), he has played for Washington (2009-12), Baltimore (2013) and the Giants (2014).
