WASHINGTON -- Marlins outfielders Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna remained in the game for Sunday's 5-1 win over the Nationals after a scary collision that left both of them shaken for several minutes.
In the fourth inning, Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman smacked a line drive to right-center field. Ozuna and Stanton converged and appeared to get their legs tangled, sending both players sprawled on the ground. They stayed down for several minutes as manager Don Mattingly and a trainer came out to check on them.
"I peeked at him. I peeked at the ball. I knew it would get there at the same time," Stanton said. "So I started calling it, and he tried to get out of the way at the last second, so we barely skipped our shins together and then hit the ground pretty hard."
With Stanton and Ozuna on the ground, Zimmerman raced around the bases for an inside-the-park home run to make the score 2-1, Marlins.
"Not really, until I rounded third base and then see the ball is still out there," Zimmerman said on whether he knew he had a homer. "I'm just glad none of them got really hurt. I'll take it."
Both Ozuna and Stanton said they were somewhat dazed for a moment after the collision, but they felt fine after the game.
"When I hit I just saw, like, black," Ozuna said. "At the moment, I was frustrated that I might have cracked my head or something like that. So I said, 'OK, let me breathe,' because I still had a headache."
Stanton would blast a solo homer in the sixth off Joe Ross, while Ozuna extended his hit streak to 15 games with a single in the same inning.
