MIAMI -- After consulting with the team physician on Saturday, Marlins left-hander Wei-Yin Chen may get an MRI on Monday to get a clearer picture on the extent of his elbow ailment. Depending on the test results, the 31-year-old is open to seeking a second medical opinion to determine all of his options.
Chen has been on the 10-day disabled list since May 5, retroactive to May 2, with left arm fatigue.
The Marlins were hopeful Chen was dealing with just minor discomfort and that he could have pitched either in the series with the Braves or at some point against the Astros, who will be at Marlins Park from Monday through Wednesday.
But Chen had a setback on Saturday during his bullpen session.
"Halfway through my bullpen, I felt some discomfort," Chen said on Sunday morning through his interpreter. "I'm going to take today off, get some rest and tomorrow I may have to take another MRI."
Chen underwent Tommy John surgery when he pitched in Japan, and last year he missed two months with a left elbow sprain. He has been pitching with a mild ulnar collateral ligament tear.
"I've already spoken with the doctor," Chen said. "He recommended me take the day off. <p. asked="" bothering="" chen="" elbow.="" his="" is="" p="" said="" specifically="" what="">There was a little bit of pain; that's why I stopped."</p.>
Chen last pitched on May 1 against the Rays, and he has already had an MRI since being placed on the DL. The veteran is off to a 2-1 start with a 4.33 ERA in five outings.

After missing so much time in 2016, and with the offseason and Spring Training, Chen was hopeful he had enough rest to get his elbow right for '17.
Still, he noted, the "symptoms are still there."
"I felt discomfort in the last bullpen, so I stopped," Chen said. "I'll talk to the doctor and see what he thinks, and then decide what to do. I'm not sure if only rest can do it. I'm not sure."
Surgery could become an option.
"We haven't discussed all those details," Chen said. "I might also go seek a second opinion. We'll see how I feel tomorrow and see what the second opinion is. We haven't discussed all those details yet."
