It's been 20 years since the Marlins shocked the baseball world with their first World Series title, and the team's home opener on Tuesday will pay homage to the 1997 championship team that beat the Indians in a thrilling seven-game Fall Classic.
Former pitcher and World Series Most Valuable Player Award winner Livan Hernandez, catcher Charles Johnson and shortstop Edgar Renteria -- all members of the 1997 Marlins -- will take part in the ceremonial first pitch before Miami faces Atlanta at Marlins Park at 7:10 p.m. ET, the team announced Monday.
The current generation of Marlins will be honored, too -- will receive his 2016 National League Silver Slugger Award, and Yelich, , and will be recognized for their participation in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
The home opener festivities at the stadium start at 4 p.m. at the West Plaza, and all gates open at 5 p.m. Before the game, the United States Air Force Brass Quintet will perform the national anthem, and the Air Force Singing Sergeants will sing "God Bless America" during the seventh-inning stretch.
