Williams undergoes MRI on right shoulder

NEW YORK -- Mason Williams was out of the Yankees' lineup Saturday against the Tigers after he jammed his right shoulder Friday when he dove back into first base.

Williams had to dive on a pickoff attempt in the fifth inning and initially stayed in the game, scoring on a home run by Brett Gardner, but he was replaced in the top of the sixth. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Williams had an MRI done on Saturday, but that he isn't a total stranger to this kind of injury.

"He did this in 2011, I guess," Girardi said. "He did it throwing though, where it popped in and out. I think he missed three days."

Chris Young took Williams' place in the lineup and played left field, while Gardner shifted over to center.

Williams, ranked by MLBPipeline.com as the Yankees' No. 26 prospect, is hitting .286 with three RBIs in eight games since his big league debut on June 12.
