OAKLAND -- The A's made loud contact during the third inning against the Tigers at the Coliseum on Saturday in the A's 2-1 win, as Matt Chapman and Khris Davis both hit solo homers to provide the team's offense for the night.
Chapman's blast came on a fastball down the middle by Tigers starter Jordan Zimmermann, and he hit a line-drive homer to center field for his 14th blast.
"That ball was struck pretty good," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "It looks like a base hit up the middle, and next you thing you know, it's going over the center-field wall."
Chapman is on a tear, batting .338 (26-for-77) with 20 runs, six doubles, three triples and four home runs, with eight multi-hit games dating back to July 11. He has now reached base in 20 consecutive games, a career high.

"It's just settling in, learning how they're going to pitch him, making adjustments," Melvin said. "The more he plays, the more comfortable he's going to get."
Chapman was encouraged by his recent streak. His batting average is up to .270.
"The more reps I've been getting, I've been able to get more and more consistent, but it's still a work in progress," Chapman said. "Hopefully, it can just keep coming together."
Two batters after Chapman went deep on Saturday, Davis sent the first pitch he saw to center for his 30th home run to give the A's a 2-1 lead. Davis is the first Athletic with three straight 30-homer seasons since Miguel Tejada (2000-02). Davis is also tied with the Reds' Eugenio Suarez for second in the Majors with 85 RBIs.
But individual achievements don't mean much to the soft-spoken Davis.
"It doesn't really mean anything," Davis said. "I'm just trying to do my job and help the ballclub win games. I feel like that's kind of irrelevant. I'm just looking to have a good team year."
